Since the Congressional hear-
ings which were held in Sacramen-
to, California on October 31, 1951
I have received information from
the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation
based On State of California pre-
liminary reports that annual di-
versions from the Sacramento
,River between Redding and 'Sac-
ramento have exceeded 2,000,000
acre feet for the first time in his-
tory. The preliminary record of
diversions Just compiled estimates
the 1951 water year diversions for
i the period ending October 1st at
12,001,769 acre-feet.
I This amount is more than a
!million acre-feet in excess of the
1935 diversions (926,164 acre-feet)
which oecurred in the year con-
structlon began on the Central
Valley Project.
The 1951 figure exceeds by 600,-
000 or 700,000 acre-feet the prob-
able future use that was estimat-
ed by State and Federal officials.
They originally estimated the di-
versions would increase about
300,000 acre feet when the Central
Valley JroJect was placed in op-
eration.
Witnesses at our Sacramento
hearings indicated uses of water
from the river would continue to
rise under present rights to it
and through existing irrigation
systems.

Got so around these parts that
everywhere a hunter went this fall,
he came up against signs saying
"PRIVATE PROPERTY. NO HUNTING,
KEEP OFF." But not out at Happy
Preston's place!
Happy's signs say "PRITATE

CAREFUL."
"Don't hunt myself," Happy says,
"but there's plenty of game on my
property. I tell the hunters where
the best spots are--away from
where rm working and where no-
body else is hunting. It works out
pretty well all-around."
From where I sit, Happy has
once again shown why he gets

everyone respects him. Happy',
