Two Lassen County law
enforcement officers who lost
their lives during domestic
violence incidents were hon-
ored with a wreath placed
on a monument .in front of
the Lassen County Court-
house as part of Domestic
Violence Awareness Month
in October.
"Thank you, Lassen County
law enforcement and officers
of the court," said Darla Free-
man, executive director of
Lassen Family Services
(LFS), the agency that puts
on the annual event. "Deputy
Larry Griffith and (Susan-
Ville Police Officer) Rob
McElrath thank you
for your courageous and
selfless efforts to protect the
innocent. You are missed by
all who knew you and by all
you served• Your memory is
in our hearts forever."
Griffith was shot ahd killed
in the line of duty March 2,
1995; attempting to protect a
domestic violence victim.
McElrath, himself an al-
leged victim of domestic
violence, was killed in
January 2011. McElrath was
committed to protecting
yictims of domestic violence.
LFS named him Officer of
the Year in 2008. Freeman
said this award goes to an
officer who demonstrates out-
standing conviction to ensure
victims of violent crimes
receive the protection and
services they need.
"Domestic violence is no
respecter of persons and has
no boundaries," Freeman
said. "It touches all walks of
life regardless of race,
religion,-gender, age or
disability, wealthy or poor.
Domestic violence impacts
all of society."
Freeman also released LFS
statistics from the last year.
LFS served 141 domestic
violence victims at its busi-
ness center, 86 women and
37 children were provided
shelter in order to flee domes-
tfc violence situations, 18
men received services from
LFS, the agency provid'ed
1,617 occupied bed nights and
71 victims were assisted in
preparing a restraining or-

how to avoid dating violence,
bullying and sexual assault.
