New this year" are several Greenville ttigh School stu- dents who have teamed to form the Indian Valley Apple Corps. They have traveled all over the valley picking local apples to juice and will be selling their product at the school by tile jar and jug during the alumni football game Satur- day, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. Folks can also call the school with orders at 284-7197, ext. 404. The Apple Squeeze is an an- nual event that draws folks from all over the region, and sometimes even from out of state. Miranda Fitch doesn't wait for the fancy orchard ladder -- she's' up in the tree shaking apples out before most of the others are ready to gather them up. The traditional date lbr this celebration of autumn de lights is the last Sunday of Oc- tober, which makes it Sun day, Oct. 30, for this year. The picking begins at noon, and the tables in the communi- ty center will be laden with a variety of dishes and desserts brought by participants. There will be at least four apple presses to fill and c'rank, and folks are welcome to either pick the Dawn ap- ples or bring their own. No money is needed to par- ticipate in this community event, but there will be infor- mation available about the sponsoring organization, the Dawn Institute. Photo courtesy Mohawk Community Resource Center Six local models showed off the latest in fashion trends Oct. 8 at the Nakonm Golf Re- sort Wigwam Room. More than 100 local women enjoyed the luncheon and sights over- looking the beautiful moun- tain setting. The sold-out event included a silent auction of prized mer- chandise and custom local fare. Crazyblooms donated the flowers on the tables and Nakoma donated the use of its facility. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction went directly to efforts to keep the Mohawk Communi- ty Resource Center (MCRC) in Graeagle open. The Portola High School cheerleaders assisted in serv- ing the luncheon and were re- warded by generous tips from guests. The volunteers are al- ready meeting to plan for next year's event. Those on the committee are Janet Reihsen, Gloria Verner, Nancy Degger, Patty Kirk, Marlene Nelson, Joyce Sears, Shirley Ricketts, Sandi Williams, Kim Berg, Dink Rife, Marcie Sheehy, Liz Holston, Kathy Ruth, Pat Fites, Linda Cooley and Judy Porep- Lullo.
