Drawing to support shelter
TALES FROM
THE SHELTER
PLUMAS COUNTY
ANIMAL SHELTER
283-3673
The cats and kittens that
have been sick are finally
well! After much love, care
and antibiotics we think
there is finally an end to the
work -- and more work
volunteers have done to in-
sure the 20+ felines survived
the upper respiratory bout.
Shelter staff and trustees
from the jail are deep clean-
ing the cat rooms and this
should ensure that the
animals stay healthy. Dr.
Klement has been extremely
helpful with advice and
suggestions and we are
grateful for his expertise.
Friends Piers and Faith
Strailey have put the finish-
ing touches on the outdoor
cat enclosure and built a
wonderful play gym for the
animals. We have been
putting the cats and kittens
out for fresh air and playtime
and they have been loving
running and hiding on the
gym! Many thanks to Faith
and Piers for donating
materials and time, and most
of all f6r their concern for the
well-being of the impounded
cats. Ve have a new plaque
on the Kitty Corral honoring
those who have made it
possible and Piers and Faith
certainly made the list.
Our latest round of spay
and neuter of the shelter cats
and dogs has been extremely
successful. We spent $1,300 to
spay/neuter 40 cats and $450
for dogs and almost all have
gotten new homes. We are
now beginning another
round of spay and neuter of
cats and kittens and we hope
to continue to find homes for
these lovely animals. Many
thanks to Dale and Hillary
Russell and Carolyn Vickers
for the taming of the semi-
ferals and the handling of all
the others. The attention
keeps them sane and wanting
to be with people -- both good
things for cats needing new
homes. Friends is in need of
donations to continue the
spay/neuter work ($30 will
neuter a cat and $60 will spay
one). Donations are also
needed to pay for cement for
the contaminated puppy
"parvo" yard. The county is
planning to pave half the side
yard and Friends would like
to make sure the whole area
is usable for incoming young
dogs. Any donation is wel-
come and all monies received
are used for the good of the
shelter animals.
Friends has a new drawing
for winter, appropriately
named "Winter, Keep Warm."
The first prize is a Victory
Sampler Quilt made in 2009
by quilter Carolyn Kenney+
In this gorgeous quilt all the
blocks are different and
feature designs from the
World War II era, or the
Victory Era. Our second
prize is a cord of wood
donated by Rusty Warren
and the third prize is a basket
of teas, coffees, cookies,
chocolate, mugs ar/d other
goodiesto keep warm with on
the winter nights. Tickets are
available from any Friend
or can be gotten by calling
283-1345.
Since all the work Friends
of the Shelter does is funded
by public donations, the
generous businesses and
craftspeople who donate
their time and goods are
invaluable to our cause of
making life better for the
shelter dogs and cats. Many
• thanks to Carolyn Kenney
and Rusty Warren and to
Michelle Low at Pet Country
for donating the cost of
printing of the tickets for
Friends.

County Animal Shelter is a
