lisher Jack Hammond of the Co-
rona Daily Independent, who con-
tends it isn't constitutional, today

the license they filed suit in Jus-
tice Court last summer Hammond
came back with an answer which
contended that the City of Corona
by assessing the license against
his newspaper, has violated th(

What would your reaction be to a merchant who priced
as follows a su/t of clothes you were thinking of purchasing:
"The price of the thread is 68 cents; buttons, 44 cents:
cloth for the pants, $8.50; cloth for the coat, $12.75; cloth for
the vest, $5.60; labor for making pants, $9.00; labor for mak-
ing the coat, $16.25; labor for making the vest, $7.40; price
to you of our buyinq and selling expense, $4.80; share of
shipping costs, .77 cents; taxes, $9.80.
"Now due to the method we have established of com-
puting and collecting these items, we will have to ask that
you pay these separate amounts to the various individuals
in the store and secure a separate receipt from each one."
You would think he had a paper head, wouldn't you?
Or you'd at least think he should go consult a psychiatrist.
And no doubt the general reaction would be such that he
couldn't stay in business for any great length of time.
Yet this is just a fair idea of the manner in which our
taxes are levied and collected throughout the country.
