The Plumas Pines Men's
Golf Club hosted the 21st an-
nual Mountain Classic Goff
Tournament Sept. 9 - 10 at
the Plumas Pines Golf Re-
sort. One hundred twenty-
eight players teed it up in
fun#flied competition.
The event included two
rounds of best ball play and
a horse race. Individuals
were able to show their skill
and accuracy in closest-to-
the-hole contests on each of
the par three holes. Unfortu-
nately, the $1,000 cash prize
and $150 gift card for a hole-
in-one went unclaimed. Bet-
ter luck next year!
After play on Saturday,
some 200 people attended
the awards ceremony and
were treated to a great din-
ner of ribs and chicken pre-
pared by chef Scan Conry
and his staff from Long-
boards Bar & Grill. Dinner
was followed by a drawing
for over $5,000 in prizes in-
cluding golf outings, lodg-
ing, meals, etc.
The tournament champi-
onship team for overall low
gross score consisted of Jeff
Ryan, Ed Enemark. Mike
Ryan and Mike Enemark.
They shot 287 in the two best
bails format. Winner of the
overall low net competition
was the team of James
Dierssen, John Dierssen,

Doug Kline and Ken Stark
with a winning score of 236.
Flight champions in low
net scoring were:
Plumas Flight: Norm
Miller, Jim Keister, Tom,
Hayes and Ken Stevenson
with a score of 246.
Eureka Flight: Todd Sala,
Dugan Hadler, Kevin
Trexler and Todd Fannin
with a score of 241.
Sierra Flight: Bob Jenk-
ins, Fritz Poole, Jack Hes-
kett and Walt Christiansen
with a score of 239.
The Plumas Pines Men's
Club is donating the net pro-
ceeds from this year's tour-
nament to local charities.
The Men's Club wishes to
express its gratitude to all of
the fantastic supporters who
helped make this tourna-
ment a success. Included are
outstanding volunteers from
the Plumas Pines Women's
Golf Club, the many prize
donors and community tee
sponsors. Special thanks go
to Jack Heskett, owner of
Deals and Wheels, for under-
writing the cost of the hole-
in-one insurance. And final-
ly, sincere thanks to Bran-
don Bowling, head profes-
sional, and Mark Callahan,
course superintendent, for
their devotion to providing
a great venue for the Moun-
tain Classic.

GOLF TOURNAMENTS
Oct. 8-9
The Lake Almanor Open,
a golf tournament featuring
all three of the goff courses
at Lake Almanor, will be
held Oct. 8 - 9.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, par-
ticipants will play their
morning round of nine holes
at Lake Almanor West, be-
ginning with a shotgun start
at 10 a.m.
Golfers will then travel
around the lake to Lake A1-
manor Country Club, where
they will have lunch at 1:30,
followed by a shotgun start
at 2:30 for another nine
holes.
The next day, the event
commences again with a 10
a.m. shotgun start at Bailey
Creek Golf Course. Dinner
and awards will follow at
Bailey Creek starting at 2
p.m.
The format of the tourna-
ment is individual gross and
net score, based on Oct. 1
handicaps.
The tournament cost is
$149, which includes green
fees, cart, range bails, lunch,
dinner and prizes.
The field is limited to 72
players, so participants are
encouraged to sign up soon
to reserve their spots.

Oct. 15
The 30th annual Purple
Pride Golf Tournament will
be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at
Plumas Pines Golf Resort,
with a shotgun start at 10
a.m.
The tournament is being
organized by the Portola
Booster Club, which helps
fund athletics and acade-
mics at Portola High School.
The cost is $100 and ira-
cludes 18 holes of golf, a cart
and a steak dinner. Dinner
can be purchased by non-
golfers for $25. There will al-
so be some great raffle
prizes.
Donations and tee spon-
sors are still needed.

The Feather River College
men's and women's rodeo
teams got off to a strong
start this past weekend at
the eighth annual Feather
River Challenge' at the
Plumas:Sierra County Fair-
grounds Sep. 22 - 2¢
Colleges from throughout
the West Coast gathered in
Quincy to compete in the
first two out of 10 rodeos for
the cDllege rodeo season.
Teams from Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo, University of
Nevada Las Vegas, West
Hills College, Lassen Com-
munity College, Cuesta Col-
lege, Fresno State and more
all took part in the event.
After three action-packed
days of rodeo, the FRC
men's team finds them-
selves on top of the West
Coast Region standings,
while the women's team

Freshman Grant Denny
from Minden, Nev., was the
top point earner on the
men's side. The young cow-
boy placed in both bareback
riding and team roping to
earn top honors for the
weekend.
"It feels good," said Grant
with a humble grin. "I've
been looking forward to col-
lege rodeo for a Iorig time,
so it feels good to start off
well."
Other top point earners
for the men's team were
freshman Dylan Hice and
junior Josh Garner. Hice, of
Oakdale. took home first
prize in the buIl'riding,
while Gai-ner. from Live
Oak, placed in the steer
wrestling and team roping.
On the women's side,
sophomore Jordan Norcutt,
of Fallon, Nev., earned her
way to the top by claiming a
championship in break-
away roping and placing m
the goat tying as well.
"It always feels good to do
well at the first two rodeos,"
said the cowgirl after her
run Saturday. "tIopefully I
can keep things going for
the rest of the year."
Freshman Bailey Bidwell,
of Hat Creek, also came onto
the scene with a splash by
placing second in the goat
tying.
Both the men's and
women's team will be trav-
eling to Lassen College Oct.
21 - 22 to compete in the
third and fourth rodeos of
the season.
