Need to forget all the bad
economic news for a while
and get together and have
some fun?
Plumas Arts can't think of
a better time or place to do
just that than the eighth
annual Mountain Harvest
Festival Saturday, Oct. 15, at
the Plumas-Sierra County
Fairgrounds from 1 to 5 p.m.
Plumas Arts invites folks
to come together in beautiful
Quincy where the fantastic
fall colors show amid majes-
tic American Valley pines
and practice some social net-
working the old fashioned
way: face to face, in the same
place. There is more than one
reason hundreds of people
consider this one of their
favorite events of the year.
It's about the beer (and
wine). Mountain Harvest re-
Valves around one of the
most impressive small town
microbrew tastings you will
find anywhere. Brewers and
brewery owners love to come
to this event to proudly
share the fruits of their
labors and to "talk beer"
with an interested, apprecia-
tive crowd. There will be at
least 25 craft brewers repre-
sented with well over 50
brews to sample. If partici-
pants prefer to sample wines,
Quincy Natural Foods will
once again host a tasting
of local and organically
produced wines.
It's about the music. The
guitar-driven Americana,
bluesy, rock and roll music
of the Bob Woods Band head-
lines the music this year at
3 p.m. Plumas Arts also wel-
comes the blues, rock and
jazz synthesis of local group
Rocket Surgery, performing
at i p.m.
It's about the extras. There
will also be a great silent
auction of artsy, beer-themed
and other amusing and
unique items and services, a
bocce ball tournament spon-
sored by Bread for the Jour-
ney and some crafts booths
as Well as food booths.
But what it is really about
is art and community. The
Mountain Harvest Festival is
one of the major fundraising
efforts that help keep Plumas
Arts producing events,
services and programs all
year long.
Plumas Arts ~s a particu-
larly resourceful and deter-
mined member-supported
organization, but nonethe-
less it has been particularly
hard hit this year with fund-
ing cuts. Unfortunately, staff

Rocket Surgery is the latestadventure for four veteran Plumas County musicians, blending a mix
of blues, rock and jazz into a clearly dysfunctional bit of pure fun. The group performs 1 -2 p.m.
Oct. 15 for the Mountain Harvest Festival at the fairgrounds in Quincy. Guitarist Bill Boggio and
bassist Tom van Rossem have been collaborating and performing together for almost 20 years.
Guitarist Gordon Wilson has added his guitar work, particularly on slide, to such prior groups
with Boggio and van Rossem as Steel Rain and String Theory. Wilson and drummer Tommy Miles
have been playing together in a variety of bands for quite some time (and still do). Rocket
Surgery is their first collective effort. They sing, they play hard, they toss unexpected twists into
their ever-evolving collection of originals and blues tunes. Rocket Surgery's name itself pays wry
tribute to a former president who once said, "It's not like it's ..." Photo by Roxanne Valladao
The Bob Woods Band headlines at the Mountain Harvest Festi-
val from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 15. Bob Woods started playing music
in 1971 with the Sacramento Western Swing band Tokpela
Woods has released six original albums and is currently writing
and recording his seventh album, "Playin' the Blues." CD Baby
calls his music "Guitar driven Americana solid as the rails under
'Railroad Money' and as sweet as the 'Sweetheart Of The
Prison Rodeo" ... The crossroads of blues, country, swing and
folk driven by 40 years of playing in beer joints and other
honky-tonks." For more information, visit bobwoodsmusic.com.
