Watershed
cleanup
volunteers
are needed
The Great Sierra River
Cleanup will storm the Feath-
er River watershed Sept. 17.
Last year, more than 150 local
volunteers removed nearly
2,500 pounds of trash and re-
cyclables from the Feather
River watershed.
The cleanup is a project of
the Sierra Nevada Conser-
vancy. The Feather River Co-
ordinated Resource Manage-
ment group (CRM) is sponsor-
ing the event locally in collab-
oration with Sierra Institute,
Feather •River College, Feath-
er River Resource Conserva-
tion District, Plumas Charter
School, Feather River Chap-
ter of Trout Unlimited,
Plumas County Department
of Public Works, Caltrans and
the Plumas National Forest.
Volunteers will be able to
choose from locations in
Westwood, Chester, Quincy
and Graeagle. Students from
Plumas Unified School Dis-
trict charter schools will be
helping with creeks in
Greenville, Portola and
Quincy during the school
week. The Great Sierra Riv-
er Cleanup coincides with
California Coastal Cleanup
Day and the data gathered
from both events will be
used to establish trends and
make recommendations to
the California Marine Debris
Action Plan.
Registration for the
cleanup will be available on-
line at feather-river-crm.org
beginning Sept. 1. The CRM is
asking community members
to help identify potential sites
along local waterways that
need attention. If you know a
site near you that needs
cleaning up, contact CRM

Martynn at 283-3739 or emall
