Aug. 8O-ept. 6-18-20) AS WE SEE if--- Ey CLINKENBEARD CLEWS The William Schultzs and their collie, the Lyal Wells and their springer, Jess Maginnis and his family are all back preparing for the opening of school next Tues- day, and young Harold Price is off gallivanting in his old haunts getting a week of vacation before he joins his pals behind the pan- els of knowledge for another term. The Lee Taylors, Dale Hannahs and C. B. Thomasons report a pleasant spell of camping at Butt Lake week before last. Highllight of the trip was a homemade raft powered by an outboard motor-- but they had to send an SOS to AAA when an unexpected winc came up and came near to swamp- ing them . . . some willing boats- man drove out and towed them all to safety--and they all learn- ed something about seafaring in the confusion. After spending the week-end entertaining company and driving nails on his own house, Bill Hall got back to Ken McIntyre's Mon- day and hit his stride by ham- mering us late sleepers awake every am. Well, Ken should have a nice addition to his menage when the din's all over. Now on Bill's agenda is the en- larging of windows for Bidwell. Dean Stowell is hard at it dur- ing his spare moments finishing his home in the Bidwell SUbdivis- ion-ready for occupancy before the first of October--he hopes. De- lay of construction at the mill, he avers, is probably only tem- porary, and we doubt if he'll work up any greater sweats there than he enjoyed last Sun- d aYu n d nna n::: ;a,; L na h : digger'' Cecil and Mary McIntyres' vacation was short-lived last week. Word of the storm and its damage to the light plant brought him back pronto, Thursday, to be exact. Incidentally, besides start- ]ng 13"0 fires in the Plumas For- cst, the lightning burned off the weather vane of the Community church., knocked a limb into the power lines, burnt out numerous water heaters and some trans- formers, shor%ed out a switch at the substation--for a total of some $3000 cost to I.V.L.&P .... of c,urse. Cece can't get away in the v.-intertime, and he should certain- ]y know better than to leave in the summertime--especially the. one time in 30 years all this had to happen! Don't hold your breath, b u t Mack may be back on the meter reading routine October one . . . glad to see he managed to walk to the show and home again Sun- day which is quite an accom- plishment for a guy that had to have his foot scotch-taped to his ankle a few weeks ago. Bees. yellowjackets and hornets seem to be having their heyday this year. Minor injuries have been reported to Gladys Deal, Eva Cumins, Del Wright, the Cumins dog and the Johnson soup-hound Snooks. Much publicity was forthcoming for Plumas County as a result of the story that broke last week concerning the marksmanship of District Attorney Janes, The re- nort of the counselor's prowess in killing a hawk and two chickens with one shot was released in the Bee, also by the Associated Press and numerous radio broadcasters . . . maybe he'd be a good con- didate for the Chamber of Com- merceor maybe it should all be credited to the journalistic prow- ess of one Bill Gambell. __,._ , We learn Ken and Pat Hunter are this week announcing a new addition to the family---a newly acquired soup hound, it seems. Ken says he is a setter-pointer--he sets on the floor and points to the ice- box (nowadays they refer to them as refrigerators, Ken--and they are blng offered for sale by one Wally Robbins). q Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nye and Sharon spent the weekend in the bay area visiting Mrs. Nye's par- eats, Mr. and Mrs. C.
