CALIFORNIAN FINDS EASY
WAY TO PREVENT FIRES
Alex "Tex" Jordan, realtor at
V:dlejc, Calif., has won the hearty
endorsement of forest fire experts
for his idea on how to prevent
cigarette butts from starting
forest fires.
His idea: "Carzy an empty car-
tridge of .38 or similar calibre
on outdoor trips. Put the glowing
end of the cigarette butt in the
cartridge. The cartridge fits colse-
b., around the cigarette and will
snuff it out in a fraction of a
minute."
Jordan sen. a .38 shell to Frank
Jefferson, fire control chief for
California region of the U. S. For-
cat Service. Jefferson tested the
idea successfully, and recommends
it to smokers as an additional
safeguard in forest and range
ureas where smoking can be done
safely in accordance with legal re-
quirements.
The forester pointed out that
smokers were the No. 1 cause of
wildfires in California last year.

THE ?OWER OF PRAYER
A nation united xn earnest
p'.yer could generate power to
stay the use of the atomic bomb
o*_ accJmplish any other univer-
sally desired goal. In the Rich-
mond (Ky.) Daily Reigster, D.
Carl Yoder gives the views of J.
dar Hoover on prayer. We
,-uote:
J. Edgar Hoover, director of the
FBI. says. "The spectacle of a
nation prayang is more awe-m-
spiring than the explosion of an
atomic bomb. The force of pray-
er is greater than any possible
combination of man-made or man-
controlled powers, because ,prayer
is man's greatest means of tap-
ping the infinite resources of God,
Invoking by prayer the mercy and
might of God is our most effica-
cious means of guaranteeing peace
and security for the harassed and
helpless peoples of the earth."
