Hot racing makes
August nights fun
at American
Valley Speedway

American Valley Speedway
Saturday night brought
the first of a series of hot
races filled with action and
surprises in the month of
August. The Sunday Fair
race Aug. 14 should attract
the hot IMCA Modified with
the purse money being
rounded up by local spon-
sors. The Friday and Satur-
day night races Aug. 26 and
27 will bring the Dwarf Re-
gional Races to the Fair-
grounds. Mark these dates
on your calendar if you en-
joy competitive racing.
Richard Papenhausen was
the hot Modified continuing
his win~ing streak into Au-
gust. He returns to his home
track not only to win, but al-
so to be a supporter for rac-
ing at American Valley
Speedway. He is a winner in
many ways. The Papen-
hausens are sponsoring and
rounding up more sponsors
to. promote the Sunday fair
race. Wade'DeBerg from
Chilcoot gave Papenhausen
a hot heat race for qualify-
ing. Their difference was
1.658 seconds. In the Main it
was Ross Cazier from Gard-
nerville, Nev., posing a
greater challenge. The dif-
ference was 0.011 of a sec-
ond. It takes the hi-tech
equipment to record these
differences. Erica Harmon
from Chester was in third
with Matt Murphy from Su-
sanville in fourth.
Papenhausen was also
victorious in a four-lap dash
race for Modifieds. Mitch
Murphy from Susanville
was in second and Russ '
Cazier, from Gardnerville,
in third. Matt Murphy from
Susanville was fourth. Our
races have a lot of family
competition.
Joe Frock, from Reno,
continued his winning ways I
into August in his hot
Dwarf. He lead his heat, the
Main A and Main B. He is
on a roll for the Regionals.
Jesse Van Kol from Portola
is also hot with a second in
the Main B and a third' in
Main A. Chase Nieman from
Quincy is smokin' with his:
new engine. A surprise was
rookie Glenn Sciarani mak-
ing a money challenge with
veteran LeRoy Kay for local
bragging rights. The "Old
Man of Dwarf cars" still
holds the title in Yearing-
ton, Nev., along with an
added $200 bonus.
Joe Wood returned to the
Pure Mini 3A car entering
the pits on the hook of Quin-
cy Tow. The bragging rights
went to newcomer Lance
Bain in Madden Plumbing's
car No. 43. The other new-
comer who is making his
presence known is Justin
Saltel of Quincy. He won the
heat race and came in sec-
ond in the Main. Jon Busse-
len in the MaddBuzz car No.
84 came in third.
The Quincy High School
cheerleaders were working
to collect money for their
cause and coming football
season. Announcer Steve
Ross is busy in August.
He was giving away race
slicks from the NASCAR
race in Sonoma. We are
unsure what the winners
will do with the tires but it
was fun giving them away
as well as the cases of
Mountain Dew. Thanks to
all that make American Val-
ley Speedway a fun place to
come and enjoy competitive
motorsports racing in
Plumas County. For more
