OHV poker run
raises Search
and Rescue funds
As part of its 2011 summer
fundraising efforts, the
Plumas County Search and
Rescue Team is hosting a pok-
er run Saturday, Aug. 20.
The event is open to two:
wheeled and four-wheeled
OHVs. which will travel a route
traversing Grizzly Ridge from
the "Four Corners" start/finish
line to Squirrel Creek to Argen-
tine Lookout to Solomon Saddle
to the Mount Hough Lookout
before returning to Four Cor-
ners. The route is approximate-
ly 35 miles long and takes place
on Forest Service and county
roads• Riders will begin the
poker run at 8 a.m. with on-site
registration and check-in be-
ginning at 7 a.m.
As many OHV enthusiasts
are aware, the future use of
many Forest Service roads for
this kind of recreation is in se-
rious jeopardy due to change
in forest administrative poli-
cy, not just here on the
Plumas National Forest, but
nationwide. Organized events
such as+this poker run are one
way OHV riders can still enjoy
the use of many roads that
may be otherwise closed to
them.
The 2011 SAR Poker Run is
an authorized event under the
auspices of a Plumas National
Forest Special Use Permit and
a Plumas County Encroach-
ment Permit.
The cost is $35 per rider and
there will be cash and prizes
given out after the ride is fin-
ished. For more information,
contact Mike Grant, Plumas
County SAR coordinator, at
283-6375. Information is also
available at many local stores,
including DuPont Power
Tools, Napa Auto Parts and
Plumas Motor Supply.

Greenville woman involved in fatality
No charges have yet been
filed against Sharol Robin-
son, of Greenville, who was
involved in a crash with a
motorcycle Friday, July 29,
at the intersection of High-
way 70 and Pentz Road.
Robinson reportedly faint-
ed at the scene when she
learned the woman on the
back of the motorcycle had
died.
A California Highway Pa-
trol official identified the de-
ceased as Naome Lynn Sevi-
gny, 53, of Colusa.
The motorcycle was oper-
ated by Dale Sevigny, 57, al-
so from Colusa. He suffered
major injuries and on Mon-
day, Aug. 1, was in fair con-
dition at Enloe Medical Cen-
ter in Chico.
The CHP reported that the
Sevignys were heading west-
bound on Highway 70 on a
2006 Harley Davidson motor-
cycle about 5 p.m., when a
Jeep Liberty driven by Robin-
son, 52, pulled out in front of
them whil6 attempting a left
turn from Pentz Road.
Robinson's passenger,
Michael Morris, 50, also of
Greenville, reportedly
yelled that a motorcycle was
approaching, and the
woman stopped in the inter-
section, where the motorcy-
cle ran into the left front
fender.
The pair in the Jeep
weren't hurt. Both motorcy-
cle riders were ejected and
reportedly landed about 30
feet away. Both were wear-
ing helmets, but the CHP is
trying to determine whether
they were the full-protection
type approved by the De-
partment of Transportation.
The above information
was printed with permission
from the Oroville Mercury-
Register. For the full story,
visit orovillemr.com and en-
ter the last names Robinson
and Sevigny as search
terms•
Although no charges have
yet been filed, CHP Officer
Doug Garrett said the incl,
dent is still under investiga-
tion.

A routine patrol July 26
near Quincy High School re:
sulted in the arrest of a bur-
glary suspe ;t.
California Highway Patrol
.officers Rob Garnero and Ter-
ry Dunn were patrolling
Quincy Junction Road near
Quincy High School at 3:45
a.m. when they observed two
people riding bicycles.
The officers attempted to
stop the bicyclists, who'we~e
riding without working head-
lights.
Officer Dunn was able to
stop one of the riders, later
identified as Christopher
Sheldon Parker, of
Greenville. However, the
other rider fled the scene on
foot.
After an investigation, the
'officers determined that Park-
er and the person who fled
had burglarized the high
school and were in possession
of stolen items and alcohol.
Parker was arrested and
booked into the Plumas
County J~il.
The person who fled on foot
was later contacted at his
home. He is a juvenile.

At approximately 12:30
a.m., James L. Haley, 43, of
Apple Valley, was driving a
2004 Chevrolet Malibu west-
bound on Highway 70 ap-
proximately three miles east
of Massack rest area at ap-

Haley noticed what seemed
to be a mountain lion run
from the north side of the
highway into his lane. Haley
tried to swerve into the east-
bound lane to avoid the cat,
but was unsuccessful and the
front of the vehicle hit the
cat. Because of the possible
danger associated with the
animal, Haley drove to a resi-
dence in Quincy, where he
called CHP dispatch. He was
unable to give an exact loca-
tion of the collision due to
darkness and being unfamil-
iar with the area.
Both Haley and his
passenger were wearing seat
belts, and neither was
injured.
