CHP REPORT
Guardrail collision,
July 29
At 6:28 p.m., Julie Hol-
brook, 50, of Portola, was dri-
ving a 1999 Honda Accord
southbound on Highway 89
approaching the intersection
with Clio 40A at an unknown
speed.
According to the Califor-
nia Highway Patrol report,
Holbrook attempted to turn
northbound on Clio 40A, and
due to her alleged intoxica-
tion, was unable to make the
turn safely and collided with
a guardrail.
Holbrook was wearing a
seat belt and complained of
pain. Following the colli-
sion, she was arrested for
driving under the influence
and booked into the Plumas
County Jail.
Driveway fire, July'31
At 1:58 p.m., Marcheta G.
Novak, 60, of Clio, was dri-
ving a 1998 Jeep northbound
on a private driveway south
of Red Sky in the Gold
Mountain housing division,
at an undetermined speed.
Due to her level of intoxi-
cation, according to the CHP
report, Novak traveled off
the driveway and struck a
series of large a'ocks. A fire
began and Novak was able to
exit the Jeep. A witness ob-
served the column of smoke
and contacted Novak near
the collision scene. Medical
and fire personnel were
summoned to the scene.
Novak sustained minor in-
juries and was subsequently
arrested for driving a motor
vehicle while being under
the influence of alcohol. She
was transported from the
scene by medical personnel.
Motorcycle injury, July 31
At 5:15 p.m., on Highway
49 just west of Vista Point,
John McTigue, 56, of Sparks,
was riding a 2008 Triumph
motorcycle.
According to the CHP, he
lost control as he entered a
left curve and was ejected
from the motorcycle. Both
McTigue and the bike went
down the embankment ap-
proximately 50 feet.
The motorcycle sustained
major damage; McTigue sus-
tained a broken right leg and
abrasions to his left knee
and shoulder, and com-
plained of lower back pain.
He was transported by Care
Flight to Renown Regional
Medical Center in Reno.
Lost control, Aug. 1
Kimberly Joiner, 44, of
Twain, was driving a 1996
Saturn Ion westbound on
Highway 70 just east of Old
Highway, at a stated speed of
50 mph, at 11:15 a.m.
According to the CHP,
Joiner made an unsafe turn-
ing movement and allowed
the vehicle to travel off the
road and onto the north
gravel shoulder. Joiner then
lost control of the vehicle,
causing the rear to slide to
the right, and across both
lanes of Highway 70. The
right side and front of the
Ion then collided with a
dirt/rock embankment.
The car came to rest on the
south shoulder, facing east.
Joiner drove the vehicle to a
turnout on the south side of
the road, and a passing mo-
torist called 911 to report the
collision. Joiner was wear-
ing a seat belt and reported
no injuries.

ILaw and Order policy
information that appears in this
column is compiled from the
Plumas County Sheriff's Office'
activity log, the county correc-
tional center's booking log and
California Highway Patrol press
releases. The Sheriff's Blotter
shows initial charges. In some in-
;tances the charges may change
after the dispatch report. We do
not report suspects' names in ar-
rests for public intoxication or
drunken driving unless accompa-
nied by another serious charge,
such as probation violation, a ve-
hicle accident or another felony.
The fact that someone has been
arrested and charged with a
crime does not constitute guilt.
The case may never appear in
court if the district attorney de-
termines there is insufficient evi-
dence to prosecute. The fact that
someone was involved in an au-
tomobile collision does not con-
stitute liability or fault. Minors
are named as legal-age drivers at
116, unless they are charged with
[ a crime in conjunction with an in- I
I cident. The CHP •determines
I whether injuries are character-
I ized as minor, moderate or fatal.
