Indian Valley Record
Donate for a chance to win
Chances to win a new 2010
Toyota Corolla are running
out quickly, with the last
chance to enter locally being
Tuesday, Aug. 16, in Green-
ville.
All presenting blood donors
will be entered for a chance to
win the prize coordinated
through United Blood
Services and the Northern
Nevada Toyota Dealers.
Members of the Indian
Valley Chamber of Commerce
will be sponsoring this event
in the Greenville Town Hall
from noon - 5:30 p.m.
The process is a simple one,
and most people can give
blood.
The only people who should
not donate blood are people
who feel sick or have
symptoms of cold or flu;
have ever used a needle to
take nonprescription drugs;
have ever had hepatitis after
the age of 11 or ever had a
positive hepatitis B or C test;
and people who are at risk of
catching or spreading the
AIDS virus.
Otherwise, chamber mem-
bers and blood services staff
will gladly welcome all those
who are 16 or older and weigh
at least 110 pounds; have not
donated in the past eight
weeks, or 16 weeks for double
red cell donors; and those
who are healthy and are not
currently taking antibiotics.
There may be specific
requirements, such as height
and weight minimums, for
certain individuals, such as
boys and girls age 16 - 22 and
other sensitive groups.
For more information
about donating blood, call
(775) 324-6454, or visit blood-
hero.com.
Appointments will help
reduce wait time; call the
chamber office at 284-6633 to
make one.
Vehicle maps ready
Motorized vehicle use
maps (MVUM) are now avail-
able for the Plumas National
Forest. The availability of
these maps effectively imple-
ments the motorized travel
management plan made last
year by Forest Supe/'visor
Alice Carlton. The maps re-
flect 4,482 total miles of road
and trail motorized access for
the forest.

Turkey
recalled
Cargill Value Added Meats
Retail announced an imme-
diate voluntary recall of
approximately 36 million
pounds of fresh and frozen
ground turkey products
produced at the company's
Springdale, Ark., facility from
Feb. 20 through Aug. 2 due to
possible contamination from
Salmonella Heidelberg.
Cargill initiated the recall
as a result of its internal
investigation, Centers for
Disease Control and Preven-
tion (CDC) information that
became available Aug. 1,
and an ongoing USDA Food
Safety and Inspection Service
(FSIS) investigation into
multiple illnesses from
Salmonella Heidelberg.
Cargill is contacting its
customers to make certain
they know which of their
ground turkey products are
affected by this recall. Con-
sumers are urged to return
any opened or unopened
packages of ground turkey
items listed at cargill.com/
turkey-recall to stores where
they were purchased for a full
refund.
Consumers with questions
about recalled ground turkey
products may contact con-
sumer relations by calling
Cargill's toll-free: (888)
