Clean Line
It'll be easier to keep your
clotheslines clean if you coat
them with shellac. Between-
washing accumulations of dust
can be whisked quickly off the
slick surface with a cloth. Pre-
pare for the shellackil]g by
washing the line with mild soap
in warm water. Rinse and allow
to dry thoroughly before you ap-
ply two thin applications of
shellac. Each coat should be
allowed to dry thoroughly.
Gardenias Require
Plenty of Water.
Gardenians require plenty of
moisture and in the interior val-
leys and other areas where hot
summers prevail it is important
they be watered regnlarly. It is
important, too, they be fertilized
heavily to maintain the g¢od
rich green color of the foliage,
but care must be taken not to
cultivate near the gronnd sur-
face because gardenias, like azal-
eas and rho0odendrons, ;re shal.
low rooted and nany of the light
fibrous roots will be found at
the top of the ground wl}ere
great damage can occur through
deep cultivation.
The two best known gardenias
are the large flowering variety,
mystery, which has become pop-
ular throughout the state in the
last few years. This popularity
is justly deserved because t h e
plant has large, glossy, luxurian
foliage, and spectacular flo¢ers
