Glenn Wilson Broadwell

Even if it was 4:30 in the
morning at the donut shop in
East Quincy where he and
his pals regularly met, Glenn
would always jokingly reply
to the waitress, 'Tll have a
gin and tonic."
Glenn Broadwell, a long-
time resident of Quincy, died
of natural causes June 24 in
Santa Rosa at the age of 92.
He was born in Phoenix,
Ariz., on Oct. 5, 1918, and was
raised in Clovis, Calif. He
graduated from Clovis High
School and attended Wash-
ington State College. On July
3, 1938, he married Ruth
Sharer.
He served on B-17s in the
Army Air Corps stationed in
Foggia, Italy, during WWII.
He worked in construction
and in the auto and truck
parts business, and owned an
auto parts store in Fresno.
In 1969 he fulfilled his
dream of living in the moun-
tains when he purchased
Plumes Motor Supply in
Quincy. His life in Plumes
County was the best. He
loved the small-town atmos-
phere where he knew and
greeted almost everyone he
passed. He and Ruth spent
many weekends on 4-wheel
drive expeditions with
friends.
After retirement he and
Ruth drove throughout the
United States, visiting the
kids and seeing the country.
They also traveled to Asia,
Europe and North Africa.
They moved to Santa Rosa
in 2009 to be closer to family,
although Glenn's heart re-
mained in Quincy.
Glenn died a few days short
of his 73rd wedding anniver-
sary. He is survived by his
wife, Ruth; children Jim and
his wife Nikki, of Vanoouver,
Wash., Janet Madison and
her husband Perry, of Santa
Rosa, and Douglas and his
wife Lynn, of Berkeley; four
grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
No service or memorial is
planned. Glenn loved people
and parties, so make a toast
to Glenn and enjoy.

Lois Gwendolyn Jones-
McGuire passed away peace-
fully in the early morning of
July 2, 2011, at the Quincy
Country Villa nursing home
at the age of 94.
She was born in Waterloo,
Iowa, April 7, 1917, the eldest
of three daughters, to Taylor

and they married in Novem-
ber 1940. To this union were
born six children: five boys
and one girl.
She was remarried in 1975
to Terrance McGuire. After
Terry's death in 1981 she
moved to Quincy to be closer
toher daughter, Susan
Nesbit, and family and to be
back living in the mountains
and the "four seasons,"
which she loved.
She lived in the Valley
Heights Apartments, being
the first tenant to live in the
new complex, loving her view
of the mountains from
her apartment window. She
became known as "Cookie
Grandma" to many of the
children, since she always
had a cookie for any child
that asked.
She was an active member
of the Quincy United
Methodist Church and sang
in the choir and participated
in many of the church activi-
ties. She took classes at
Feather River College and
helped with the Gleaners and
the Nutrition Site. She loved
to swim and spent many
afternoons at Pioneer Pool or
Bucks Lake with her family.
She traveled a lot with
friends and family, and spent
