PCS students visit Yosemite The spring field trip for Plumas Charter School was scheduled for the week of May 16. Destination: Yosemite National Park. Elementary students, their parents and teachers were excited about visiting Cali- fornia's famous park. Arriving Monday at the Wawona Campground in the southern part of the park, their first get-together was Monday night around a campfire to toast marshmal- lows for that traditional camping dessert, s'mores. There was plenty to do at Yosemite, even with the rain. The group drove to the valley and took advantage of all the indoor activities -- the visitor center, the museum and the theater. The visitor center was full of current Yosemite informa- tion, as well as a display of the park's history. At the museum, students and adults were amazed by baskets, woven by local Native Americans, which ranged in size from gigantic to tiny. A Native American crafts- woman and storyteller sat in a wide corner showing the steps to making traditional musical rhythm sticks. The group took advantage of a free valley shuttle. Several short hikes could be made from stops at trailheads on the shuttle's route. The group attended a ranger talk at Yosemite Falls, learning about local wildlife and examining a number of pelts that the ranger had brought for added interest. Yosemite Falls and Happy Isles were afternoon hiking destinations, making for a full third day. Thursday was a dynamic finish with a hike among the giant sequoias at Mariposa Grove and the completion of the Junior Ranger Program. Need help L If it's we can' ii' find some o can.
