005[IB®[E[IB/00 ?%,nnething Different Wee Hints on Milady's Fad for Summerwcar By HELEN WEILL, Fashion Editor With summer in the air, Dame Fashion holds reign, not only in fashion, line and design, but in .the practical accent for time. For though milady be one, who can off a jolly-jaunt go, as her heart desires; or one, who but can dream of that long lost vacation, in the fact that purse strings are too tight. Still, she can have the fun and the thrill of planning her sum- mar wardrobe ,. that it not only is right for hometown; but if Uncle Good Luck should step in, Milady, does not need to say, "Ah, me, not a penny left for clothes." So just for the lark of it, a sum- mer wardrobe to-go, or-not-to-go, is .rely worth considering. And as dreams of vacation-y days get longer, the musts of the ensem- bles appear. Swim Suits And the firsts in musts are the suits that make the very back- irene of every season wardrobe. F(w summer, they start or end with swim suits from or to cas- ual suits . . . And led on by the urge for travel, the dark-in-color light-in.weight-suit is a secret of success. This sail with the well se- lected, for occasion blouse, takes Milady where she needs to go, with perfect saitahility. The blonse? Ah, there's the game, for a game it is, when Milady realiyes that her choice i in a niyriad of designs and fabrics. To lend supreme charm to a caressingly warm summer (lay, a frosty, frothy blouse is the thing, it may be of fine butcher linen, ith but a daisy chain out- lining the low round neck, and siort shoulder sleeves. For still more flowers, the blou.,e of this day, may be a cool one of all over eyelets in surplice style. Pongee in natural color is very good, as is the crisp or- gandy shirt done in white. V#'ee Corner If still tucked way back in a wee corner of one's mind, is the Determination to "get that trip," a blouse in nylon crepe must not be overlooked. It is the travel- wise must, in that it can be washed out at sleepy-time, hung over the bath tub; and low-to- behold; not only dr5, , but self- pressed by morning. And along with this pylon t/p, titat all Miladies are lear.. ing, is the new hint of nylon undies. Not necessarily fabric nylon; bat the weight of nylon sltould he con.idcred. For though nylon is a h'avel-must, it is not snmnter-jus|, if it is win- ter weight. So please, cltse only sheer nylon uBdics, and if possflfle, ltOrOU ones. Many ace the .uits t}rtt go- with-the-summer, for travel or for merry-g(5-rounds-at-home. The fabrics are from cottons, tha.t are washable; silks, that are fine and sheer; to woolens that are a cer- tain-carry-over-int,t fall, and pos- sibly winter. Casual Jacket A love of a suit in dn'k checks has the longer casnal fitted jack- et with piping of dark shade flut- ed all around the shapely deep lapel and buttonhole cuffs . . . And for the most-accepted oblique, the piped fluting swings arGlnd the cuff of tile fake-pock- ets on the very soft rounded hip- line. Silk.serge in pale natural or pastel shade makes a softly- curved suit with delicate hand- picking, just like Papa's fine wool one. For an all around wear of sen- tie simplicity, Milady might choose the shapely al suave suit of Julliard planeteen. The hat, a small thrut-forwal'd-sailor with veil that tucks nearly under the chin, and shoes of soft kid would complete a striking travel costume, Something quite different, in town-or away, is the Burlington rayon flannel bolero suit with color accent in blouse and hat. This rayon flannel is new, in- deed, and particularly attractive to the young career gel, for whom both time and money must count. Another two-color treatment in this flannel is a more stream- line suit . . . Longer jacket is deftly tailore<t, ,lsing contrasting color not only m blouse but in triangle treatment under the lapel collar and at the low V single pocket on right hip. Fast as summer goes, so .goes space, with a big promise of wee hints. FAGE 6.MAGANE C$1ilFOJ1ffi. MAID OF COTTON--For cdsp, young dandng even;ngs, Miss Jeannine Holland, 1951 Maid of Cotton, wears a demure white pique date dress, ensembled with a sophisticated black velveteen jacket, by Rappi of Junior Formals. The pique, spiced with black lace embroidery, is a Stern & Stern cotton. Black velveteen pumps by Newton Elkin. All made of cotton. Miss Holland visited San Joaquin Valley cities recently on a tour arranged with the co-operation of the Central Valley Empire Association and the National Cotton Council. "FOg V¢OMEN ONLY" MAE MURRAY, one of the greatest names ever to come out of Hollywood, has always been admired for her beautiful golden hair, which has been one of her trademarks for years, and Mae Murray told me her secret of keeping her hair lustrous and lovely, which is simply taking a turkish towel, warming it over an oven, and then massage the hair and scalp with this dry towel for five minutes each morning' and evening! I tried it myself and you will be amazed at the change in ,the texture of your hair at the end of one week! . . Look for a price war between your druggist and your grocer, on cosmetics and other drug items . . A new book will soon be" published which will give the secret for- mulas of all the famous brands of beauty preparations, which .YOU can stir up in your kitchen for a few pennie,! . . . The latest contests are all centered around babies, baby creeping, baby crying, and ba'by laughing contests will soon be held all over the Nation . . . Outdoor Square Dancing will be most popular this summer, and in many places will be sponsored by the local merchants . . . You will find all churches accepting women ministers in-.1952 . . . The latest successfully tested diet will soon be announeed by. Dr. Adolph Sorensen as "Eat no bulk, all liquids. Vegetables go through liguifier; 0nly leas meat used, no salt but garlic salt and saccarine substitute for sugar, and you will really drop off the fat, in a safe manner! A VERY FAMOUS PREDIC- TION-From time to time in this space, I have given you the m a n y predictions of t h e prophets, and the coneensus of opinion (for prophecy is opinion) states that in 1954: "There will be a world of united nations, united politically, culturally, and religiously, in which war will be banished, no creed or color will exist, speaking a common tongue, a planned economy, no custom duties nor immigration barriers, no poverty or fear, where government officials are selected for their character, ex- perience and efficiency, with the poverty and fear of each other abolished!" This is truly a tall order for time to bring forth, but 5() years ago if any one would have talked about a radio set and described it, they would have been a madman or a dealer of black magic! This will all hap- pen by 1999, so let us all stick around and wait for it! Much could happen in the next 48 years! Criswell Answers Dear Criswell: "Vlll this property aver be worth more?
