Because of a last minute out- break of measles, several of the class were unable t attend. Shortly after school started they were transported to the lake by bus, and since the day was warm the majority were soon in swimming. Others hiked, fish.ed or "just waded" until lunch time. Mr. Cornell Kurtz, sixth grade teacher also took all who wished for a ride round the cve in his boat. After lunch, games and distribu- tion of report cards occupied the time until all were *returned to their homes at 2:00 o'clock. Those who helped Mr. Kurtz make this memorable occasiion for the class were Jess Osborne, who furnished the free transportation, and Mesdames Kurtz, Baxter Bur- ton, Montoya, Conrad, Walters and Caraway. GREENVILLE TEACHER HONORED AT CHICO Word has been received from confidential sources to the effect that Greenville's Music Maestro, Robert F. Johnson, was selected as among the most outstanding music directors in his class, by judges at Chloe, when the local band performed there. Mr. John-i son, who is easily overcome by modesty, has not been interviewed in the matter, but official chan- nels have confirmed the fact that honors were bestowed upon him. In administering the law the board has found that owners of automobiles purchased under cir- cumstances calling for use tax pay- ments often are unaware of this liability until the tax is overdue. To avoid hardship to taxpayers, the board, acting under legisla- tive authority, has deferred the due date so that automobile own- ers mav be informed about the tax bfore delinquency occurs. Under this new rule, the auto- mobile use tax may be paid With- out penalty within three months after the close of the calendar month in which first occurs one of these events: (a) application for California registration, (b) transfer of ownership, or (el ex- piration of the odt-of-state regis- tration.
