6th GRADE CELEBRATES
WITH PICNIC AT
ALMANOR COVE
In celebration of their gradua-
tion from grammar school, 35
members of the Sixth grade class
spent last Friday at the cove on
Lake Almanor, where a picnic and
swimming party was enoyed by
all. Because of a last minute out-
break of measles, several of the
class were unable t attend.
Shortly after school started
they were transported to the lake
by bus, and since the day was
warm the majority were soon in
swimming. Others hiked, fish.ed or
"just waded" until lunch time. Mr.
Cornell Kurtz, sixth grade teacher
also took all who wished for a
ride round the cve in his boat.
After lunch, games and distribu-
tion of report cards occupied the
time until all were *returned to
their homes at 2:00 o'clock.
Those who helped Mr. Kurtz
make this memorable occasiion for
the class were Jess Osborne, who
furnished the free transportation,
and Mesdames Kurtz, Baxter Bur-
ton, Montoya, Conrad, Walters
and Caraway.
GREENVILLE TEACHER
HONORED AT CHICO
Word has been received from
confidential sources to the effect
that Greenville's Music Maestro,
Robert F. Johnson, was selected
as among the most outstanding
music directors in his class, by
judges at Chloe, when the local
band performed there. Mr. John-i
son, who is easily overcome by
modesty, has not been interviewed
in the matter, but official chan-
nels have confirmed the fact that
honors were bestowed upon him.

gins. In administering the law the
board has found that owners of
automobiles purchased under cir-
cumstances calling for use tax pay-
ments often are unaware of this
liability until the tax is overdue.
To avoid hardship to taxpayers,
the board, acting under legisla-
tive authority, has deferred the
due date so that automobile own-
ers mav be informed about the
tax bfore delinquency occurs.
Under this new rule, the auto-
mobile use tax may be paid With-

of these events: (a) application
for California registration, (b)

SNOW AVERAGE DOWN
Snow measured on the Buck-
Oroville Summit at Letter Box in
the Plumas National Forest on
May 2 by Ranger William Turpi
and Forest Patrolman Willianl
Shuster of the Brush Creek Ran-
ger Station, was reported this
morning to average 50 inches in
depth with water content of 25
inches. The snow depth, accord-
ing to Ranger Turpin, is about 65
per cent of the average May 1
measurements for the past eight
years, but he pointed to the
water content this year as being
from 10 to 15 per cent better tham
average.
Commenting on water condi-
tions, Turpin said his season, des-
pite the dry spell suffered in
March and April, can still be sat-
isfactory in the mountains if May
and June produce just a little
better than the normal rainfall.
