L" N GOLF TOURNAMENTS June 4 Sierra Hospice will cele- brate its 30th anniversary in 2011, and in recognition of this outstanding accom- plishment, they will be sponsoring a "Good Grief" golf tournament Saturday, June 4, at Bailey Creek Golf Course at Lake Almanor. Registration is at 8 a.m. and play begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The $120 registration fee includes a round of golf with a shared cart, range balls and an entry gift. The tournament will in- clude entry gifts, raffle prizes, a $5,000 putting con- test, two hole-in-one con- tests where players can win either a 2011 Polaris RZR or $5,000 cash, and a tri-tip lunch. June 5 Tim Gallagher, Walt Steuben and Tera Saefke, all CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volun- teers, have taken their advo- cacy to a new level by help- ing to organize Plumas CASA's fourth annual Golf Tournament. This year the tournament will be held at Grizzly Ranch which features a beautiful course designed by Bob Cupp. The tourna- ment will be followed by a dinner catered by Lena's Cantina and a silent auc- tion; which will provide players the opportunity to bid on golf packages from courses including Squaw Creek, the Dragon, Plumas Pines, Whitehawk, D'Andrea and Thunder Canyon. Players can also enter to win raffle prizes, including a Nikon digital camera and gift certificates from area restaurants. Plumas CASA recruits, trains and supports volun- teers to become court ap- pointed advocates who speak up for children who are in foster care due to abuse or neglect. Plumas CASA currently is serving 28 Plumas County children through the efforts of 23 vol- unteer advocates. The tournament is set for Sunday, June 5, at Grizzly Ranch. June 25 The eighth annual George Friedrichs memorial golf tournament will be held Sat- urday, June 25, at Lake A1- manor West Golf Course. The tournament will bene- fit the Chimney Fund and Chester High School sports. The 18-hole handicapped scramble begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. The cost is $95 and in- cludes continental break- fast, lunch, raffle, cart and range balls. There will be a $15,000 cash prize for the first hole- in-one on hole No. 3, spon- sored by Cathy Kuersten of Coldwell Banker - Kehr/O'Brien Real Estate. Make checks payable to LAWGC. Photo submitted HUI tournament honors Lindroth The llth Annual Horses Unlimited Inc. (HUI) golf tournament was held May 11 at Graeagle Meadows Golf Course. This year, the tour- nament was held in memory of Jody Lindroth, who for many of those 11 years orga- nized the event herself. This tournament is the largest to benefit Horses Unlimited Inc., a charitable organiza- tion that provides therapeu- tic horseback riding for people with special needs. The following people and businesses provided raf- fle items and tee sponsor- ships and HUI is most thankful to them: Nakoma Golf Resort, Graeagle Millworks, Grizzly Grill, Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club, Bob Klein, Pat Nichols, Plumas Pines Golf Resort, Grizzly Ranch Golf Club, The Spa at Plumas Pines, Vivian Lindroth, Lau- ren Sternberg, Gene Nelson, Nancy Lee, Shirley Leschin- ski, Howard Johnson, Pam Ayoob, Art and Nancy Bartlett, Mario Garibotti DDS, Norm and Pat Nichols, Tim Landes, Ron and Jen- nifer Zumbro, Larry and Re- nee Walker, Randi Collier, Holly Kaluck, Irene Little, Scharol Kalbaugh, Lynn Ha- gen and Danisce Downs. The format was a choice of either a four-person scram- ble or two low net best balls of the foursome. Winning first place in the scramble division was the team of Ken Kolb, Art Hinton, Bob Reinitz and Michael Barton with the score of 60. Second place went to the team of Bob Phelps, Dick Lundy, Jon Twit and Rich Hinds, which scored 65, and third place went to the team of Warren Cheney, Gil Driscoll, Cathy Kurdupski and Steve Munsen, who broke a three-way tie scor- ing 66. In the best ball division, the team of Annie Fischer, Tom Balestri, Mike Irving and Andrea Irving won first place with the score of 120. The second place team was composed of Larry Walker, Renee Walker, Paul Jeglum and Cathy Cianciolo and scored 122, and the third place team was Norman Nichols, Pat Nichols, Mar- vin Pierce and Jan Pierce, winning a tie-breaker with the score of 126. After golf, the raffle, awards and appetizers were enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Graeagle Mead- ows Golf Course and Restau- rant, and to the organizing team of Olga and Hbward Johnson, Dick and Ellen Fearing, Priscilla Piper and Renee Walker.
