10A Wednesday, May 11, 2011 Indian Valleyl{ecord Donations for Sesha The family of Sesha Put- nam has set up a special fund to help with the burden of her medical expenses. Putnam was in an accident that left her paralyzed, with the use of her arms. She is currently at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno and will soon be trans- ferred to Santa Clara for rehabilitation. The rehabilitation will include her whole family, so funds may be needed to help keep the family together at that time. Donations to the fund may be made payable to The Sesha Putnam Fund and delivered to Plumas Bank branches, or mailed to P.O. Box 612, Greenville, CA 95947. An opportunity to donate with a credit card is available at seshaputnamfund.com. Those interested may also visit The Sesha Putnam Fund on Facebook. For the birds Jessup Lake is one of many Greenville Elementary students who really enjoyed the visit from Plumas Audubon Society members who recently taught students about local birds and how to draw them. Taylorsville Elementary sixth-graders learned that it could be with help from Rob Wade, the outdoor education coordinator. He took them on an adven- ture that taught them more than a textbook ever could. They started their first field trip at the headwaters of Taylor Creek. They will continue their journey this month, following the water to the Pacific Ocean. The hike began on Ann Street and continued up to the headwaters. The purpose of the hike was to learn about how Indi- an Valley supplies California with water for many different uses. Without the watershed California wouldn't be able to sustain life and food for animals and plants. That is why it is so impor- tant to be educated about the California watershed and to know where the water comes from. This trip has taught the sixth-graders not to take water for granted because they might not always have it. On the way up the moun- tain they encountered tribu- taries branching into Taylor Creek. A tributary is a smaller body of water that flows into a larger body of water. They also observed diver- sion and confluence. Diversion occurs when water is diverted from its original path. Confluence occurs when two rivers meet. In the end the sixth-graders learned about the watershed and how to respect it.
