Greenville kindergarten Round Up May 5

helps with the transition of
starting school and can make
it a more positive event.
Parents of a child entering
kindergarten may have many
concerns. Will my child be
ready to handle a new school?
Will the teacher be able to
help my child? Will the school
be safe? Will my child meet
new friends? How will my
child behave?
Kindergarten Round Up
will be held at Greenville Ele-
mentary School Thursday,
May 5, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Parents can pick up the regis-
tration packet at the school.
Complete the packet and
bring it with the child's im-
munization record and birth
certification May 5. Starting
school is one of the most im-
portant and exciting events in
both a child's life and a
Children have their own
worries. Who's going to help
me? Will other kids like me?
Will my teacher like me?
What happens when I have to
go to the bathroom? Who is
going to meet me after school?
Parents can talk to their child
ahead of time, asking, "Do you
have any questions about
starting school? Do you want
to talk about anything special
about school?"
At Kindergarten Round Up
parents will have the opportu-
nity to talk about all of these
issues with school staff,
health care providers, profes-
sionals, volunteers and other
parents. The May 5 event also
makes it possible for a child to
complete the kindergarten
health requirements and to
visit, their soon-to-be school.

Teaching your children to
be safe includes knowing
their first and last names,
home phone number and
street address.
Show your child that learn-
ing is fun and encourage cu-
riosity. Play games with
words, numbers and colors.

on local field trips. Share
books with your child often.
Encourage helpful habits
like dressing and choosing
clothes for herself, doing sim-
ple chores and sticking to a
schedule.
Support physical develop-
ment by providing plenty of
outdoor activities. Fine-motor

art and writing opportunities
at home.
Help him develop social
skills by having opportunities
to play with other children
close to his age.
Become familiar with
Greenville Elementary School
by visiting the classroom ahead
of time. Explore the play-
ground. Find the best way to get
to the bus Stop or the school.
By the time August comes
around, parents and children
will be more prepared, re-
laxed and excited for this im-
portant family event. Parents
are welcome to attend Kinder-
garten Round Up even if they
have already completed the
health requirements (physical
and immunizations). New
kindergartners receive a
backpack filled with school
supplies at Round Up. For
