Bulletin, Progresswe, ecord, Reporter bC Wednesday, April 13, 2011 • Quincy so|:'Iball team rallies Shannon Morrow Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com Trailing 4-1 late in the game, the Quincy High School softball team scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 10-6 vic- tory in their league opener at Williams Friday, April 1. This was the first win of the season for the Quincy Trojans, bringing them to 1- 0 in the Mid-Valley North League and 1-3-1 overall. Williams got on the score- board quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning, and then Quincy answered back with a single run in" the same frame. After the second and third innings went scoreless, Williams added two runs in the top of the fourth to jump out to a 4-1 lead. The Williams Yellowjack- ets maintained their advan- tage through the fifth in- ning, but then Quincy plat- ed nine runners in the sixth to take a six run lead. Williams responded with two runs in the top of the seventh frame, but it wasn't enough to deny Quincy the come-from-behind victory. Camille Hernandez led the Trojans with two hits, two runs, one double and two RBIs. Sarah Mckenzie, Amanda Dorris, Sierra Keely and Jennifer Wolfe each added one RBI. Wolfe earned the win for Quincy, pitching all seven innings. Wolfe allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out six bat- ters. Then last Friday, April 8, the Trojans nearly regis- . tered another come-from-be- hind victory against Biggs, but came up one run short and lost 9-8. Quincy fell behind early in the game, trailing 4-0 after the first .inning and 7-2 after the third inning. The Trojans scored one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, while Big- gs posted two runs in the fifth, bringing the score to 9- 4 after five innings. Quincy rallied, earning two runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't quite enough, as the game ended with the Trojans being one run shy. Quincy has another league game at Esparto this Friday, April 15, and then is scheduled to host East Nico- laus Tuesday, April 19.
