American Valley Speedway
In automobile racing the "green flag"
symbolizes the start of a race. In past
seasons, thunderstorms prevented the
drop of the green flag at American Valley
Speedway (AVS). Plumas County is the
major watershed for downstream communi-
ties. AVS works to bring racing teams to
the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in
Quincy. In its unique way, it introduces city
folks to another dimension of life in our
pastoral communities. Our county offers
outdoor sports from whitewater rafting
to motor sports. Our racing is on dirt.
Our pits are surrounded by forests. We are
offering many levels of competition from the
novice to the veteran and from GoKart to
Sprint Car.
We hope the snow Will clear so the "big"
track and the new "GoKart" tracks can be
prepared for our play days. We want partici-
pants and spectators to have fun. The new
season brings some changes that AVS hopes
will improve our attraction to both the local
community and those city folks.
The Pro Stock cars of recent seasons will
have to travel to the cities for more competi-
tion than they found here. A new experimen-
tal class called "Hobby Stock" should attract
locals that can't afford to build a Pro Stock.
Rules have been established to determine in-
terest in a budget class aimed at getting

Wood back for his second season in a Modi-
fied. The Higgins and Harmon racing teams
will be challenging again.
The DART Dwarfs are a big attraction.
Three new local competitors are expected.
"Big Chase" Nieman may take the lead as he
enters his second season inside of a dwarf.
For racing fans that have never seen a dwarf
race, you have really missed some exciting
racing. The DART Dwarf Regionals are Aug.
26 and 27.
The Pure Mini Stock class will return with
the BuzzMadd team taking on the Nieman
girls again. There is rumor that Matt Stew-
art may drive a Hobby Stock, leaving his
pure stock a BuzzMadd girl. We also expect
another Reno contestant on the track.
The Civil War 360 will open with practice
June 17 and the war of the winged power
machines June 18. These open wheel cars
will kick up the dirt on the big oval track.
They have been known to fly and set track
records. Local veteran Jim Richardson is ex-
pected.
With attempts to keep racing affordable,
American Valley Speedway has developed
through the years to provide exciting racing
opportunities to young and old. The GoKarts
are a great start for the next generation of
drivers. We have seen the development of
drivers and their cars in past seasons. AVS
invites you to come to watch or participate
in motorsports. For more information,
