A Feather River College
class in April will create a
strategy to inventory and
salvage excess and hard-to-
reach fruit from trees around
Quincy and East Quincy.
Creating a fruit tree
registry that would identify
local "streetside" fruit trees
that could be accessible to
the public would help tree
owners share the bounty of
their trees bounty that
sometimes goes to waste.
Those willing to include
their fruit trees in a mapped
registry should contact Darla
DeRuiter at 283-0202, ext. 262
or dderuiter@frc.edu.
The class will learn about
fruit tree pruning methods,
and can help tree owners
with that spring-time task to
make trees more productive.
The short-term class, titled
ENVR 194 Current Environ-
mental Issues, is focusing
this semester on Creating a
more sustainable, resilient
community.
In addition to fruit tree
pruning, the class will do
other hands-on projects like a
community garden work
blitz, receive cooking lessons
for cheap bulk staple foods
and learn about the Transi-
tion Initiative, community
assets inventories and time
banking.
The class is scheduled for
four dates: Tuesday, April 12,
from 6 - 9 p.m.; Friday, April
15, from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.; and
all day Saturday and Sunday,
April 16 - 17.
