Last week was eventful for
the Chester High School
wrestling team, as heavy
snowfall and lack of power
presented a few challenges.
"Practice in a cold and
poorly lit room and driving
in winter conditions made
for an interesting week."
said Chester coach Tom
Maumoynier.
Despite the weather, the
team made it down to the Di-
vision III and IV Sectional
Championships in Willows
and had a great deal of suc-
cess last weekend.
The Chester Volcanoes
claimed their fourth consec-
utive Division IV champi-
onship, winning by a wide
margin over Tulelake.
In the overall team stand-
ings among the Division lII
and Division IV teams,
Durham won with 196.5
points, followed by Chester
with 155.5, Willows with
152.5, Trinity with 145 and
Modoc with 135.
If competing in Division
III, Chester would have fin-
ished ~[n second place, but as
a Division IV school, the
Volcanoes could not ~eceive
the runner-up award.
Chester earned two indi-
vidual titles. Clay Buchanan
won at 105 pounds and West-
ley Ruffer won at 162
pounds.
The Volcanoes had three
wrestlers finish second: Dy-
lan Ruffer (132 pounds),
Rocklin Loranger (137
pounds) and Matt Staggs
(154 pounds).
Placing fourth were Tyler
Tatum at 115 pounds, Chris
Sexton at 142 pounds and
Forrest Cummings at heavy-
weight.
T.J. Eidhammer (114
pounds) and Cole Conner
(191 pounds) each finished
fifth.
Chester had eight
wrestlers qualify for the Sec-
tional Masters tournament
m Redding this weekend,
which includes all divisions.
Clay Buchanan is the
number one seed, Westley
Ruffer is the number three
seed and Dylan Ruffer and
Rocklin Loranger are each
sixth seeds.
The top three in each
weight division qualify for
the State Championships in
Bakersfield the following
week.

Although the Portola
Rotary Club's snowmobile
poker run was hindered by
last weekend's deep snow,
a few folks still brought
their snowmobiles up to
play around. The poker run
still happened in the park-
ing lot of Grizzly Store.
Janie Stewart won first
place, followed by Bob
Ciapponi in' second, Beau
Clover in third and Chaz
Carroll in fourth. The draw-
ing for the snowmobile
was won by Mike Allegri,
who is Rotarian Jerry
Todd's grandson.
