Velasco was not hurt. He was away from home at the time and was not expected to return before press time. lndian Valley Fire Chief Jim Hamblin said the mobile home was fully engulfed when volunteers were paged at lunchtime. Crescent Mills volunteers and Forest Ser- vice crews were also on the scene. All that remained by 3:30 p.m. was a pile of burnt tim- bers and twisted, blackened metal. The neatly stacked piles of firewood next to the home were saved, as was the heat- ing oil tank out front. Hamblin thinks the fire may have been an electrical fire that started where a crock pot was in use. Karl Velasco's home burned to the gr.ound in a matter of moments at lunchtime Thursday, Feb. 3. He was in Chico at the time. No injuries were reported.
