Photo by Karen Barker Skiers continue racing hard Shannon Morrow Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com The Quincy and Portola ski teams continued their season schedule with a giant slalom race at Northstar Jan. 17 and a slalom race at Sugar Bow] Jan. 24. On the GS racecourse at Northstar, Portola's Tyler Atkins seized the third fastest combined time out of more than 50 skiers in, the men's competition. Four Quincy skiers fol- lowed, giving Plumas County five of the top 12 positions. They were Koby Barker (sixth), Garrett Hagwood (ninth), Henry Dillingham (llth) and Luis Rubalcava- Cunan (12th). In the middle of the pack, "Portola's Tyler Stockdale came in 26th, while Quincy's Zack Theuriet-Howe, Daniel Haygood and Dante Knowles finished 28th, 29th and 31st, respectively. Additional racers for Quin- cy included Brian Wood, Danny Ryback and Jake Beaulieu. In the women's division, Quincy's Mariah Hopkins claimed 13th place out of 38 racers, and Portola's Caitlyn Shirley came in 16th. Rowan Abbott also finished for Quincy. One week later, the skiers traveled to Sugar Bowl to race the slalom course. Atkins was again the fastest local skier, register- ing sixth place for Portola. Dillingham moved up in ranks for Quincy, turning in the teams' fastest time of the day for eighth place. Barker followed in 11th place, and Hagwood nailed down the 15th position. Quincy's Rubalcava-Cunan and Portola's Stockdale fin- ished back-to-back, in 21st and 22nd place, respectively, and Haygood earned the 29th spot for Quincy. Wood, Ryback and Beaulieu also each put to- gether two good runs to earn points for the Quincy Tro- jans. In the women's competi- tion, Quincy's Alexis Decoe was the fastest of the local skiers in eighth place. Shirley captured 17th place for Portola and Hopkins earned 18th place for Quincy.
