In last week's home game i against Hamilton Jan. 25, ju- i nior Keyshawn Johnson led the Quincy Trojans with 21 points, including two 3- pointers and five of seven free throws. Justin Lusk and Devonte Smith each added nine points on the evening. Thematch began slowly, as more than four minutes ticked off the clock without a basket, until Quincy se- nior Zack Vaughn finally opened the scoring and drew a foul to give Quincy a 3-0 lead. Vaughn finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Hamilton quickly an- swered back and outscored Quincy by three baskets to take a 10-7 lead, but then Quincy turned things back around to take a 13-12 lead by the end of the first quar- ter. Hamilton briefly recap- tured the lead by opening the second period with a 3- pointer, but then Quincy ran the next nine points, capped by a 3-pointer by 'Johnson, which forced Hamilton to call a timeout. The stoppage helped Hamilton cool Quincy's mo- mentum and the Braves got back to within two points, but then Quincy ran another seven straight points to take a 30-21 lead-at halftime. Lusk opened the Second half with a quick 3-pointer, but then both teams fell into more of a defensive posture, and the third quarter ended with Quincy scoring nine points and Hamilton scoring five. Once the final period be- gan, Hamilton notched it up on offense and hit a couple 3- pointers, cutting the Tro- jan's lead from 13 points to five points midway through the .quarter. Not wanting to leave the door open for Hamilton, the Quincy Trojans stepped it up down the stretch, scoring three consecutive baskets. This forced Hamilton to begin fouling for possession, arid Quincy came away with a 53-46 win. Smith led Quincy with seven rebounds, while John- son and Lusk each grabbed five and Ethan Skemp cap- tured four. Johnson led the Trojans.; with four steals and four as- sists. Four days privr; the Tro- jans registered their first league win witha 62-45 vic- tory at Biggs Jan. 21. Quincy scored 18 points in the first quarter, 15 points in each of the second and third quarters and 14 points in the final period. Justin Saltel led Quincy's offense with 16 points, mak- ing all six of his free throws. Consequently, Lusk and Johnson combined for 11 as- sists. Most recently, the Trojans went on the road and defeat- ed Esparto 49-42 last Friday, Jan. 28.
