The Lake Almanor Snow-
mobile Club will host its 17th
annual Poker Run the Satur-
day before Presidents' Day,
Feb. 19.
The jump-off point is locat-
ed at the Lake Almanor
Snowmobile Park, on the cor-
ner of Highway 36 and
Plumas County Road A13.
Registration begins at 8:30
a.m. The poker run begins at
9 a.m.
The annual event features a
snowmobile village, fire pits
and a pulled pork sandwich
lunch provided by the Rotary
Club of Chester.
In addition to the offering of
a $300 prize for best poker
hand, the event also boasts ta-
bles of prizes for the drawings.
Prizes include something for
everyone: items like chocolate
gift baskets, gift certificates
for meat, wine, hats, a barbe-
cue grill, coolers and tools.
The Lake Almanor Snow-
mobile Club promotes the
sport of snowmobiling, safety
and community involvement.
Proceeds from the annual
poker run and prize drawing
tickets have supported many
worthy community efforts
over the years.
The success of last year's
poker run made it possible to
make donations to the
Chester Elementary School
playground fund, the Chester-
Lake Almanor Fourth of July
Fireworks Extravaganza
event, the Eagle Lake Chil-
dren's Charities, the Chester
High School limnology pro-
gram and Sober Grad Night.
Dedicated to Alex
The 2011 poker run is dedi-
cated to 3-year-old Alexandra
Gaither and proceeds will be
used to help the family with
medical costs incurred with
her recovery.
Alex suffers from a rare
and life-threatening medical
condition called Langerhais
cell histiocytosis.
Histiocyt0sis is an extremely
rare immune system disorder
and is also the general name
for a group of syndromes that
involve an abnormal increase
in the number of immune cells
called histiocytes.
Histiocytosis has typically
been thought of as a cancer-
like condition. It is an au-
toimmune phenomenon, in
which immune cells mistak-
enly attack their own body,
rather than fight infections.
Extra immune cells may al-
so form tumors, which can af-
fect various parts of the body
including the bones, skull
and other areas. Any part of
the body can be affected.
In Alexandra's case, this
disease is affecting the back
of her neck upward to her
skull, and has created a num-
ber of holes in her skull.
Join the club
In addition to the annual
poker run, the Lake Almanor
Snowmobile Club maintains
a fun and activity-filled calen-
dar that has members hitting
a variety of trails throughout
the winter months.
Members meet during the
snow months of October
through April and welcome
anyone with an interest in
snowmobiling to attend a
meeting.
Among the events on the
2011 calendar are rides to Fre-
donyer Summit, Humbug
Valley and Butte Meadows.
For more information
about joining the club or par-
ticipating in the poker run,

sarin at 284-7469 or Kathy
Donley at 5964354.
