Greenville girl
makes her mark
Mona Hill
Staff Writer

Senior Mack van Fleet
has only been at Greenville
High School since the be-
ginning of the school year.
In that time, she's made her
mark.
A Crescent Mills resident,
Van Fleet came to GHS
from Maxwell. She carries a
3.5 grade point average and
won a California Inter-
scholastic Federation North
Section award for outstand-
ing academics and athletics.
This fall she was the
starting center for the Indi-
ans' varsity football team.
She plans to attend Feath-
er River College next fall on
her way to becoming a
game warden.
But her real passion is
softball. For her senior pro-
ject, she hopes to improve
softball opportunities for
Plumas County's young
women.
She has convinced Feath-
er River College to send its
softball team and coaching
staff to run a clinic at the
GHS gym Saturday, Jan. 22.
Open to girls 9 - 18, the clin-
ic runs from 10 a.m. to
noon.
The early registration
cost is $15; tickets are $20 at
the door and include a T-
shirt and lunch:. The fees
will help cover Van Fleet's
upfront costs.
For more information or
to register, call Van Fleet at
284-7733.

uled for 7:30 p.m., follow-
ing the women's game at
5:30 p.m. Pictured is FRC

Fishing cards due
The Department of Fish
and Game reminds anglers
to turn in their 2010 Fishing
Report-Restoration Cards by
Jan. 31. This legal require-
ment applies to all holders
of report cards for ,steel-
head, abalone, Spiny Lob-
ster, North Coast Salmon
and sturgeon report cards.
Information collected
from the report cards pro-
vides DFG with data to mon-
itor, restore and manage
some of California's most
important fisheries.
Anglers should review
their report cards carefully
and fill out the forms as ac-
curately as possible. Fur-
ther information about re-
port cards can be found at
dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fishing
/fishdescrip.html.
This year, steelhead an-
glers are'encouraged to use
the new online reporting
system, which will be avail-
able through Jan. 31. The
angler will receive a receipt
of compliance via email and
save postage costs.
Online reporting also
saves DFG time and costs
related to data entry, which
in turn increases funds
available for steelhead pro-
jects.
Steelhead anglers who
cannot or choose not to re-
port online can still opt to
mail in their report cards to
the Department of Fish and
Game, Steelhead Fishing
Report and Restoration
Card, P.O. Box 94244, Sacra-
mento, CA 94244. (Mailing
the card is not necessary if
the information has been
submitted online).
