Ruth Ellen Back
Ruth Ellen
Back was
called to her
eternal home
early Satur-
day morn-
ing, Jan. 8,
201I, at the
age of 70.
Born into the Jewish faith
July 29, 1940, to the late New
York natives Nathan and
Bea Satzman in Brooklyn,
N.Y., Ruth spent the first 10
years of her life in New York
before moving with her fam-
ily to Culver City. She con-
tinued her education in Cul-
ver City, graduating from
Culver City High School as a
member of the class of 1957.
Ruth went on to attend
UCLA for a year prior to her
first marriage and the birth
of her children. She returned
to college after raising her
daughters, graduating from
College of the Canyon where
she earned her teaching cre-
dential. She was employed
by the Los Angeles Unified
School District as an elemen-
tary school teacher for 33
years, retiring in 2000.
On April 14, 1984, Ruth,
through a blind date, met the
love of her life and her best
friend, Martin A. Back. The
two were united in matrimo-
ny in the back yard of her
brother's home in Beverly
Hills.
After seven years of vaca-
tioning at their home at
Lake Almanor, the couple
made it their permanent res-
idence in 2007 after residing
in Ridgecrest for five years.
Ruth continued her love of
education by working as a
volunteer for literacy classes

Library. She had a love of
animals and Was a staunch
supporter of the National
Humane Society. She found
solace in readifig, and trav-
eled the world with her hus-
band.

her loving husband Martin

men), Kathy, Martin Jr.
(Michelle), Melanie (Brad);
grandchildren (the joys of
her life) Natalie (Randall),
Nicole, Jeremy, Bradley
(Courtney), Penny (Scotty),
Eddie, Jonathan, Tyler, Ja-
cob, Anna Rose and Jeremi-
ah; along with great-grand-
children Billy, Ethan and
Jaden. Ruth will be dearly
missed by so many she
touched throughout the
year, along with her com-
panions Shayna and Sammy.
She joins her parents and
brother Barry in their eter-
nal home.
A celebration of Ruth's life
was held Tuesday, Jan. 11, at
the Fehrman Mortuary
Chapel in Chester. Inter-
ment took place in the
Chester District Cemetery.

joined her
loving hus-
band in their
eternal home
with the
Lord the af-
ternoon of Jan. 8, 2011, at
Sutter Memorial Hospital in
Modesto, at the age of 79.
Shirley was born in Mar-
shall, Me., Aug. 7, 1931, to
the late Missouri natives
era E. and Alma I. (Nelson)
Short.
A licensed vocational
nurse for over 25 years, she
wa,s employed last at the for-
mer Indian Valley District
Hospital in Greenville.
Shirley and her late husband
relocated from Modesto to
Greenville in 1986.
She was an active member
of the Greenville Southern
Baptist Church and a former
member of the Modesto and
Greenville Assembly of God
churches, where she taught
Sunday school. Shirley
found great solace in reading
the Bible. She was a talented
seamstress, while also enjoy-
ing painting and the serenity
of the outdoors.
In passing, Shirley leaves
her sons David Peer, .of Va.
caville, Timothy E. Sexton,
of Bakersfield, and Jonathan
Sexton, of San Antonio',
Texas; daughters Judith Afin
Marinel, of Rio Oso, Sandra
Sexton, of Modesto, Sharon
McCullough, of Richfield,
Idaho, and Rebecca Hoofard
of Gerber; brothers Stanley
Short, of Greenville, and
Verlin Thomas, of Redding;
17 grandchildren, numerous
great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchil-
dren, all so precious in her
heart.

Church Saturday, Jan. 15.
Interment followed along-
side her late husband in the
Greenville District Ceme-
tery.

1953, to Bobby Jo and
Willard Frank Monroe in
Glendale.
.She moved from West Cov-
ina to Quincy in 1972. Anne
attended Feather River Com-
munity College, then relocat-
ed to Chico in 1993 to com-
plete her Bachelor of Arts
degree in sociology at Cali-
fornia State University,
Chico, graduating in 1995.
Anne was passionate
about helping others and
spent, her nearly three-
decade career helping people
with developmental disabili-
ties rrros{ recently working
for Far Northern Regional
Center in Chico.
She made her first home
purchase in Cohasset in
2005, where she enjoyed avid
gardening, bird-watching
and completing home pro-
jects, sometimes reworking
a project countless times un-
til it matched her vision.
Throughout her life she
sought adventure: traveling
and loving all aspects of na-
ture and the ocean, exploring
hot springs in the desert,
camping and paddling on the
water with friends and family.
Anne was a talented artist
creating pieces in every-
thirkg from batik to pencil
and charcoal drawings.
She is survived by her
mother, Bobby Jo; daughters
and sons-in-law Lana and
Tyson Adler and Mayli and
Jimmy Menesini; and grand-
daughter, Kyla Menesini.
Additionally, she is survived
by her brother and sister.in-
law Bill and Elise Monroe,
and nephews Neil and Kevin
Monroe.

Sharon was born Aug. 7,
1939, in Idabel, Okla., to
Jesse R. and Bessie I.
Pittman. The family lived in
OklahOma for "a couple of
years before moving for a
short time to Chicago, Ill.,
and then to Los Angeles.
When World War II started,
they moved to Oakland,
where her father worked in
the shipyards. Her sister
Karen was born in 1945 and
shortly after that they
moved to Por6ida where her
