- 4C Wednesday, July 15, 2009 :C Bulletin, Progressive, Record, Reporter -f, Erica Harmon, the only female driver in the Modified class, was an early contender in last Saturday night's main event. Photo by Shannon Morrow Speedway continues to entertain the fans The races Saturday, July 11, were another example of quality racing brought to Plumes County by American Valley Speedway. Excitement was found in every car class with some extras thrown in for the spectators. Blair Parrot got off his quad as an emergency crew worker to put on his CHP hat and lead our young GoKart Outlaws around the oval. No arrests were made for speeding. Race announcer Steve Ross conducted a scavenger hunt for pennies, nickels and quar- ters during a race delay. He interviewed two children from Africa visiting their grandparents. The races have its rewards for visitors and participants. The Nor/Cal DART DWARFs displayed their might and speed as they warmed up for regionals Aug. 28. Billy Wilson in car 41 lead from start to finish with car 33 and 20 challenging him. Matt Buyten, a four-time world winner in the X games in freestyle motocross, came in ninth in car 87. These open wheel miniature hot rods are big excitement. The first main event was the Pure Mini Stock race. It was family feud between un- cle Curt and nephew Chris Nieman; Chris passed Curt before the checkered flag. The big race in size and weight was the Pro Stocks. Travis Petersen found his groove in his WW III car. Phil Merino from Chico is getting the feel of a new car and a different track. The competition in this class is intense and well balanced, with the winner of each race unknown until the checkered flag. The climax of the night was the Modifieds. Erica Harmon jumped to a quick lead over Bill Pearson, who would take over. Jake Holland and Pear- son would change leadership of the race until Pearson proved his dominance once again. This night of racing spon- sored by Nape Auto Parts proved to be another great night of competition found in the motor sport racing of Plumes County.
