Photo submitted the winner of Sierra Business of the Year enesee nam usln reg ess ional The Small Business of the Year Award for 2013 has gone to The Genesee Store Bistro-Deli-Cafe of Taylorsville. Each year, in honor of Small Business Week, the Sierra Economic Development Corp. (SEDCorp) selects a small business for the award. Taylorsville residents and business owners Robert and Carol Meacher were selected for the award April 5. The Genesee Store Bistro-Deli-Cafe was one of four nominees Considered for the award. Businesses were evaluated on such criteria as economic impact, increase in sales, product line expansion, penetration into new markets, job growth, upgrading management capabilities, participation in trainings and workshops, community involvement and dedication to the community that the .... business serves. During Small Business Week; SEDCorp honors small business owners and workers for their important role in leading the way in an economy distinguished by low unemployment and sustained job creation. Brent Smith, SEDCorp CEO, states, "We applaud the men and women who own and operate small businesses and spur economic growth. Through their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence, they help ensure that America remains a place where dreams are realized." The Meachers are committed to the success and growth of their business; this summer marks the beginning of their 24th year of operation as a family-run business in Plumas County. The Meachers are active in their community, supporting the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce and participating in fundraising events for both the Century Bike Rides and Crab Feed. They donate to the recreation district, Mountain Circle Foster Family Agency and the Feather River Land Trust. Robert Meacher recently concluded 20 years of public service as a Plumas County supervisor representing the, greater Indian Valley area. SEDCorp provided The Genesee Store Bistro-Deli-Cafe a business loan under the SBA micro-loan program and they have also benefited from SEDCorp's technical assistance.
