After a strong showing on PUBLIC NOTICES: Your P IGHT TO KNOW Statewide public notices from participating California newspapers can be viewed at www.capublicnotice.com Michael Condon Staff Writer mcondon@plumasnews.com California Department of Fish and Wildlife fish planting crews are busy delivering catchable trout to streams and lakes all over the state. There have now been 554 fish plants this year throughout the state. But 553 of those plants have been somewhere other than Plumas County. Even the one plant we did get could be considered a poke in the eye. Last year, I asked California Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel about planting trout at Caribou on the Feather River in advance of the opening weekend fish tournament. This is a popular annual event that attracts lots of kids. I was assured by Fish and Wildlife that they always planted fish in advance of tournaments like this one. or plumasnews.com Well ... they did plant trout at Caribou this year. It was the one and only plant in Plumas County so far. But they planted the week after the tournament. There were a lot of disappointed kids and parents at the Caribou tournament this year. If you want an opportunity to catch some planted fish maybe you should go to Mono County. They are a similar sized county with an economy that, like Plumas County, relies heavily on tourism. Like Plumas County, many people visit Mono County to take advantage of'the good fishing. And no wonder the fishing is good. So far this year, while Fish and Wildffe has delivered exactly one load of fish to Plumas County, their hatchery trucks have found their way to Mono County with 66 loads offish. Maybe we need to send a bunch of Plumas County maps to California Department of Fish and Wildlife. I am sure they are just confused about how to find us. Lake Almanor Trout, salmon and bass are all biting at Almanor, but the spring bass may be the biggest attraction. Almanor has long been known as a great trout lake, but in recent years the smallmouth bass are getting • o Abandons business name FICTITIOUS BUSINESS FICTITIOUS BUSINESS prior to the hearing. The bass have moved up from the deep water and are actively feeding in the shaUows. Look for stumps and structure where they can find some cover. Spinner baits and soft plastics on jig heads are effective baits. There are some very nice trout being caught, but patience •is required. The fish are widely scattered throughout the lake so there is no hot spot that guarantees fast and furious action. We have been getting some very welcome spring rains every week or 10 days. Those storms and some cool spring runoff are keeping the water temperatures from rising quickly. That is all good in the larger scheme of things, but it may account for the sparse insect hatches and luke-warm trout bite. Trollers are finding fish scattered all over the lake now. I like the west basin this time of year. The flood diversion canal around Chester, affectionately know by locals as "Super Ditch," has been running for weeks. It brings cool water and plenty of feed to the north of Goose Bay where it empties into the lake. Fishing the edge between the stream of water from the ditch and the lake can be productive. See Fishing, page 6C Brought to you by: Dr. Gregory Sawyer, DDS THE TOOTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TOOTH Out Of Control Decay Since the advent of widespread fluoride use and the teaching of proper flossing and brushing techniques sixty years ago, there has been a progressive reduction in the prevalence of dental decay. In their relentless pursuit of teaching the public the practice of preventative home care, dentists have almost put themselves out of a job! In spite of this however, there are still cases of rampant, out of control decay that don't respond to fluoride therapy or plaque control efforts. The causes of this unique type of dental caries is currently being researched. I have personally conducted my own clinical research studies to attempt to unravel this mystery. My hypothesis is based upon alternations of systemic pH (acid-alkaline imbalance) rather than the traditional theory of tooth decay which relates only to the direct topical effect of the acids produced by plaque. It appears that there are many things that can cause this lowering of systemic pH. Here's a short list: pharmaceutical drugs, recreational drugs, diabetes, cancer, chemotherapy, suppressed immune system, high sugar intake (especially soft drinks), and heavy use of alcoholic beverages. If you have uncontrolled decay first check this list. Does it apply to you? More onthis next week. Family Dentistry and Orthodontics 2034 E. Main St., Quincy, Ca 95971 (530) 283-2811
